SHETLAND SWIM TEAM RESULTS FROM THE SCOTTISH OPEN AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS 2000 – ROYAL COMMONWEALTH POOL EDINBURGH.
2 swimmers of the newly formed Shetland Swim Team, Carolina Massie and James Nicholson traveled to Edinburgh to compete in the Scottish National Open Age Group Championships. Swum over four days in the 50 metre pool against competitors, from all over Britain, it was a daunting prospect for both swimmers.
Caroline of the Lerwick Amateur Swimming Club took part in four events: the 100 metre and 200 metre freestyle and backstroke. As she settled, her results improved with each event. Out of the Scottish 16 year olds she finished 11th in her 200 backstroke and 15th in her 100 metre freestyle. She also has achieved new long course personal bests for all her events.
James of the South Mainland Amateurs Swimming Club took part in seven events the 100 metre, 200 metre and 400 metre freestyle. The 100 and 200 metre backstroke and butterfly events. The first two days saw him like Caroline, get the measure of the pool. His best swims came in his last four events where he finished 8th fastest in his 100 metre freestyle and ninth in the to 100 metre freestyle along with an 11th in the 100 metre butterfly and 400 metre butterfly . He also achieved new long-course personal best times.
